It's finally paying tribute to its third and most recent expansion. The generosity of our community partners helps us keep families together.
Where you can stay
Please make plans for the care of your other children before coming to the hospital. One adult may stay overnight with their child in the hospital. A single sleeper couch is in most patient rooms for one parent or grandparent to stay. You will need to bring your own personal care items and sleepwear.
Hospital visits for staying at least one night
The Family Room provides family members and other caregivers, including those currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Milwaukee, a place to rest and recharge on Rogers’ campus while their loved one is in treatment. These families come from all 50 states and many countries around the world whose children are receiving medical care at Children’s Wisconsin or other area hospitals. We offer a place to call home at little or no cost, so families can stay together. Many families try to contribute what they can—even if it’s the suggested $20 a night donation. At Ronald McDonald House Charities Eastern Wisconsin, we provide strength and support to children and their families by keeping them together when they need it most.
We’re caring for families around the world through our 3 core programs
We know you and your family may be traveling hundreds of miles to receive care. Making the decision to receive mental health treatment isn’t easy, especially when you’re across the country from those you care about most. To help you during this transition, we’ve compiled a list of lodging, dining and entertainment options close to each of our locations. Three stories of this 25-thousand square foot site and the outside will be decked out for the holidays. Organizers say it's a fantastic way to take in the sights and sounds of the season all while helping sick children and their families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Wauwatosa.
RMHC serves millions of children and their families each year, but more need our help. Yet, simply because we don’t have enough sleeping rooms around the world, 138,000+ families are turned away each year. Your donation can help us to expand to fulfill the needs of more sick children and their families. And how exciting that in the same month we celebrate the completion of this bridge, we also celebrate the completion of our expansion.
House Story
All the proceeds will go toward the Ronald McDonald House Charities Eastern Wisconsin. The house welcomed a few select supporters inside and our own Steph Brown was there for the celebration. For nearly 40 years the Ronald McDonald House has been a place of comfort and support to families. To make an appointment, call our Central Scheduling team or request an appointment online. Vetscher explains, "When you're volunteering at the house to see just the gratitude of the people who are coming through the line to get dinner. It really touches you." MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Oliver Vetscher looks like any other happy active and playful five-year-old boy, but Oliver had a tenuous start in life, diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Our House through the eyes of guest families, volunteers and staff. “Our entire committee is proud of our work and know we have the momentum to raise the final funds to open the house to the public,” Lippe added.

"I really think they are that safety net that people don't realize they need until it's actually there," said Vetscher. Vetscher recalls, "His birth was a surprise. His placement into our family was a surprise, and then his very serious medical condition on top of everything was very much a surprise. In a sudden event like that your family, your friends, like they just can't ramp up that quickly." Many area hotels offer discounts to parents or family of our patients. Now we can offer a solution to our families for a safe and efficient way to cross Watertown Plank Road to and from Children’s Wisconsin. The bridge also represents the great relationship that unites our Ronald McDonald House with Children’s Wisconsin.
We have a general list of items you or your loved one will need during the treatment stay. It brings a huge amount of relief knowing that families do not have to wait for our scheduled volunteer van service to get a ride to or from the hospital, or even worse, have to cross Watertown Plank Road in front of our building — many times in the dark with significant traffic. As we celebrate our 30th year of Ronald McDonald House serving families with critically ill or injured children, the completion of the pedestrian sky bridge over Watertown Plank Road signifies a great achievement. In order to make your stay at Children's Wisconsin as easy as possible, we created a list of hotels, motels, and other options to help out-of-town families plan where to stay in Milwaukee.
Vetscher shares, "They're really a Godsend. I mean, my family knows that firsthand. We were able to experience what that house provides, a family in need. You know, personally, it will always have a place in my heart." As a thank-you for the care Oliver received, Vetscher recently enlisted TMJ4 for a team to make and serve a home-cooked meal for families at the Milwaukee area Ronald McDonald House. The mission of the Ronald McDonald House is to keep families together and promote the health and wellbeing of children. Those with the non-profit say all the upgrades are a win for everyone. “There is nothing more cherished than the ability to be able to focus on the care of your child without having to worry about daily life logistics,” Gomes added.
Many of our supporters choose to support our future through planned gifts. Unlike cash donations, planned gifts are typically made from assets in your estate rather than from disposable income, and may come to fruition after your lifetime. Even people of modest means can make a difference in the lives of children by planning a gift. Most children spend very little time interacting with doctors, nurses, or other health care professionals. To make a significant impact on children's overall health, we reach out to families beyond our hospital and clinic walls. Brothers, sisters and other children are not allowed to stay overnight.
